Gianluca Casagrande

Professor, Geography and History of Western Civilization

Gianluca Casagrande teaches Geography and History of Western Civilization at Università Europea di Roma. He is a tenured member of the School of History and it is also the Scientific Director of GREAL (Geographic Research and Application Laboratory).

His main research interest is to investigate “territorialization” or how mankind shapes the inhabited lands through a process involving perception / decisions, material conditions and regulatory actions. This kind of study involved material analysis of space use (through cartography, surveys and remote sensing) and research on the immaterial components such as culture, shared opinions, customary laws, etc.

Casagrande earned a PhD degree at Università di Roma Tor Vergata and a Master’s degree at LUMSA University, Rome.
